I just woke up from taking a nap. I dreamed I could fly. My Dad and my Uncle were both Navy pilots. When I was in the Navy I went to flight training in Pensacola, but I was horrible at it. I have had a number of dreams where I went and tried again to fly, but today I dreamed that I tried again and I was really good at, so much so that I loved it. After I landed I would go to the bathroom and get a drink and then go back out to fly again because I could not get enough of it, it was so much fun. I wonder if this means anything?
I am not trading stock these days. Instead I just loaded up on the UK bank
Barclays. I think it is likely to be worth ten times the current price within five years. That means that shares that are trading for $5 today I think will be worth $50 within 5 years. I currently own 12,900 shares so if I am right I will be halfway to being rich.
The reason that I like this bank is that despite being hugely profitable the market is pricing Barcleys like one of the banks that are going under. However, I noticed that they are not behaving like they are going under. Instead hoarding cash and ducking for cover they are going out and picking up the choice bits from the carcasses of the other institutions that ARE going under. For example, the main bust of this whole economic mess has been the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy. Who picked up the very profitable Lehman trading desk and none of the Lehman liabilities? Barclays.
Follow along if you like. The symbols on the London market is
BARC and on the NYSE the symbol is
BCS.
The last time I felt like this about a stock was in 1998 with
Check Point. I got inpatient then and sold when it did not go up as fast as I wanted it to in 1999. I did well with the other stocks I bought instead, but I would have been a multi-millionaire if I had held on to the Check Point until 2000.
I feel so strongly about this I want to find more work to scoop up more shares while they are this low. When I spend $5 on something I think to myself "Wow, there goes $50".
My 30th high school reunion is next year. I have never been back for a reunion. In addition to the normal worries of such an event, I have the added concern of being an interloper since I never actually graduated. They are bing nice about it, though.
NatJ turns 7 today. We have a family party planned for this evening and I am making the chocolate cake.
At work we have had a new shakeup. We have one every few months. They have totally redone the shifts, and it looks like I will still be getting a third shift bonus, but now will get to sleep on weekend nights. I have not done that in 6 years! My new shift will be 5am until 5pm, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The downside is that I will not be able to go to church Sunday morning. I will need to find a Saturday or Sunday night service.
It seems outrageous to get a hefty bonus for simply coming in a little early, but sometimes the breaks just go your way. The guy that works second shift is not at all happy that now he has to work all night. He is probably going to quit and he can, even in this environment, because he is a young single guy. He says it is not what he signed up for. We warned management, but sometimes you can not save management from themselves.
