Two of my kids attend
NYOS, a local charter school. The day before yesterday my Nattie stayed home from school because he had the flu. It might have saved his life.
On that day after an assembly a boy in Nattie's class was missing. So they looked for him and the gym teacher found him in the rest room
under cardiac arrest. He administered CPR and called 911 and the boy is now in
critical condition in the hospital.
The school had a meeting yesterday, but siting privacy concerns of the family, would not go into details about the accident. So I have no way of knowing if this was an illness, an assault, an accident or a suicide attempt.
It seems to me safety always must come first, and this case the safety of all of our children must come before the families wish for privacy. We simply need to know the details to know if it is safe to return our kids to that school.
I was quite disturbed to learn on the evening news last night that the poor boy was found hanging on a hook in the bathroom. Seems to me that is exactly the type of information we need to know.
Since the school appears to be covering up the facts of the case, and since we do not know what happened, or if it is safe, my kids will not be returning to NYOS.
You might want to add the boy and his family to your prayer list.
Update: The poor boy died today, 48 hours after they found him.
